LAPTOP DOES NOT START ON PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON

Lately i have been noticing that many laptops do not respond on pressing the start button. My friend faced a similar problem few days back. Initially the problem seemed quite complicated and he thought he would have to spend a ransom to fix his laptop. I have a fix to the problem which i would like to share.
Take out the battery from underneath the laptop and then press the power button on top for about 15 seconds or so without the battery connected. This will surely solve the problem. I have tried it on a few other laptops facing the same problem. The fix may seem wierd but it is working. I asked my mentors and they told me that maybe charge was accumulating behind the power button and pressing the power button without the battery connected was removing the extra charge.
